Peace in the Valley by Ruth Logan Herne ~ Review

Peace in the Valley
Lucie's Review:
Trey Walker Stafford is a Country Music singer who sings and writes faith-filled songs of hope, and of love that lasts. He is called home because his father needs a liver transplant and he is the best match. Sam Stafford tries to talk Trey out of donating, but Trey is determined to stand by his word. Sams asks Trey to help out their neighbor, Lucy.

Lucy is far from starstruck when she first meets Trey, considering that he ran a  stop sign and caused her to swerve off into a ditch, losing all the flowers she was going to take to market, and flipping her van upside down. He offers to make amends by getting her a new vehicle, and continuing to help out.

But it will take more than a friendly smile and a new truck to win Lucy over.

Lucy is a widow with 4 children under her care, she works hard on her farm to make ends meet, growing flowers and Christmas Trees, fighting against nature as the buildings fall into disrepair.

Trey helps Lucy clean up her farm, and charms her three children. I love how he teaches her sons, Cade and Cody about being men, and quickly becomes one of her daughter, Belle's favorite people. He's not afraid of hardwork, but she is reluctant to trust him, and isn't interested in his fame or money.

I loved the friendly banter and quick wit between Lucy and Trey. Lucy fits in with the Stafford and even asks Elsa and Angelina for help with her teenage step-daughter, they suggest that she get a job helping at the horse ranch.

I really admired Trey, he is a man who appears to have everything, but is still haunted by his past. He is a genuine guy who doesn't mess with drugs, booze or women. He's surprised by how much he wants to win Lucy and be there for his children. Lucy has her own past to deal with, she has had to be strong and self-reliant, and has trouble believing that Trey isn't just too good to be true. Full of humor, I loved seeing the Staffords all together, their great dialog and easy ribbing. I loved every minute of it, highly recommend this book and anything by this wonderful author!
